چکیده

Given the wide range and diversity of proposed architectures for autonomous robotic agents, an essential role can be played by a programming environment not hardwired to any particular architecture. This paper discusses the design of a programming environment for robotic systems, promoting rapid prototyping techniques for building diierent robotic architectures, while retaining a good eeciency in robot control. The environment has been conceived as the integration of a real-time robotic machine with a full-edged logic-based system.

Multi-Sensory synergies in Humanoid Robotics

Sensing is a key element for any intelligent robotic system. This paper describes current progress of a project in the Intelligent Robotics Research Center at Monash University that has the aim of developing a synergistic set of sensory systems for a humanoid robot. Currently sensing modes for colour vision, stereo vision, active range, smell and airflow are being developed in a size and form t...

Whiteboards: Scheduling Blackboards for Semantic Routing of Messages & Streams

This paper presents a type of scheduling blackboard called whiteboards. Blackboards can simplify construction of systems with large numbers of heterogeneous components requiring a high number of fine-grained interactions. An increase in systems integration, for example in humanoid robotics and intelligent environments, has called for better solutions to support multi-module integration. Whitebo...

Modelling of Eyeball with Pan/Tilt Mechanism and Intelligent Face Recognition Using Local Binary Pattern Operator

This paper describes the vision system for a humanoid robot, which includes the mechanism that controls eyeball orientation and blinking process. Along with the mechanism designed, the orientation of the camera, integrated with controlling servomotors. This vision system is a bio-mimic, which is  designed to match the size of human eye. This prototype runs face recognition and identifies, match...

Robots and Intelligent Environments: Knowledge Representation and Distributed Context Assessment

Ubiquitous Robotics is a novel paradigm aimed at addressing the coordinated behaviour of robots in environments that are intelligent per se. To this aim, suitable methods to enforce cooperative activities must be assessed. In this article, a formalism to encode spatio-temporal situations whose occurrences must be detected by a contextaware system is introduced. The Situation Definition Language...
